i think you should use the algorithm that FIFA uses to rank national teams for ranking managers. So for example,
The current seasons results should have more weight than the previous season's results. The same way, the previous season's results should have more weight than the one before it. This way, it provides players more incentive because they're more likely to move up if they keep winning. It also means that players who joined way before others won't have a CONSTANT advantage after a couple seasons of playing. Also, it allows more fluctuation in ranking as opposed to having the first player who joined the game being on top which will make the game way more interesting. So as an example you could do this:
only the last 4 seasons count in a manager's ranking and they could be weighted as follows:
most recent season: 0.4
previous one: 0.3
previous one:0.2
previous one0.1

oh, and please do leave your vote

Normally, the problem that early-created teams keep increasing the amount of supporters is due to the fact that they simple win more games. This will probably be over by next year, since then the better teams are in the same league (1st division) and teams will start losing, resulting in a steady/decreasing rate of supporters. 28/06/2011 15:55

but lets say a team has been winning div 1 for a while, and he now has massive amounts of experience. It will take a couple seasons before anyone comes close to him even if there are better managers out there. On the other hand, if you make the "4 seasons only count" rule then you will have the best manager in 1st place in a shorter time. Also, it makes the ranking more dynamic (which gives players a huge incentive because if you do your best for 4 seasons then your on the same ground as the top manager) which i think is what most games lack. 28/06/2011 16:03

I think the two classifications: manager and team are a bit stupid
as a newcomer can be above yours in one of two
They have no sense

I have a suggestion for team rankings.

Just add up all the player averages and rank the teams according to the resulting number. That could also include the junior team.

I know that's not perfect either, but it tells You a whole lot more about the strength of a team (including its future prospects if You include the junior team) than the existing ranking system.

To add onto that I think it should be broken up by divisions as well.
