I think some freebie jrs are randomly generated. You can find some diamonds in the rough. I was scouting for Hungarian players and through hiring and firing a few found an 80% or higher right forward by comparing his training increse to that of a my known progression forwards. His starting avg was bad but that's ok as he will be trained.

If you don't want to search with gbs or pay for gbs, the trial and error can work. And for pretty cheap also - firing crappy juniors is only a few hundred bucks.

Sure. I know the exact progression of each of my jr OMs. One is progression 80%. Say I find and hire a free agent junior OM. I train Shots on Goal. My known 80% prog jr OM increases increases by say .2 points total as an example.

Increase = Motivation * Coach (or Jr Coach) * Progression * Training chosen. (I think, unless it changed).

My coach is the same, and say motivation is the same - they were both in the starting lineup or they were both in the reserves.

The jr OM I found and hired via my scout increases by say .18. Based on this, I can guess that his motivation is just under 80%. Not bad.

By repeating this process, you can find and guesstimate the free juniors' progression without using golden balls. Again, it's a process and it's a guess each time. I've fired far more than I've kept.
