How do I know if I have a good, decent, or functional formation? What I mean is, I can use some formations and they seem great because I beat the crap teams by 5-10, but then I play a decent team and get beat. I have about 8 different formations, and they SEEM to work, but then somehow I lose to lesser teams. I have played friendlies, but I don't really get a clear picture because their team is either way better than mine, or way worse. Not to mention, I can't afford the energy to keep playing friendlies because my players get too tired between friendlies, private league, and league play.

Help?

Advice?

Should I try to find someone to try out my formations and see if they work as well as I think they do?

looking at your game stats from today (4-1 loss), you were offside trapped to death and only got one shot on goal. 20 offsides is WAY too much. you will need to scout your opponents in advance to see if they have a history of playing offside traps and adjust your formation in advanced formation to pull your striker way back. this tactic is how many players with a lower rated team feel is there only chance at winning and yes it does work from time to time. 23/03/2012 20:17

I try to reel my guys back, but I often have offsides...I am always afraid of pulling them too far back...how bad would that hurt my gameplan if I pull them back pretty far? 23/03/2012 20:22

ok, i just watched the first 10 mins of your match today. your opponent was actually NOT playing a high offside trap you just appear to have your strikers/OM pushed way too far forward resulting in a ton of offside calls. you will have to adjust your formation by moving your strikers back and i also recommend pushing up your two CDF's a bit. you opponents will never get an offside call if those two guys just sit on the 18 yard line waiting for the attack. be more aggressive and try a tighter more compact formation. it may or may not work but is better than getting a 20-0 offside call game. 23/03/2012 20:25

your welcome. try out your "test" formations in friendlies first if possible and see what works best for your team. 23/03/2012 20:30

I think you're asking how to avoid or beat an offside trap. I think.

Bring your forwards back and keep them in-line with the ball. Also adjust your red & yellow lines to set your mids or forwards back more.

Watch games of people who play offisde trap and against offside trap, if you can. Sadly mobile players I don't believe have that option.
