I don't blame the defenders for that last goal which eliminated them, it was a shot from about 40 yards out which the GK should have just taken a few steps over and caught it but instead decided to dive early and horribly misjudge the bounce and let it go in... once of the worst things I've ever seen happen in a meaningful qualification match. If you want to blame a player on the field rather than the GK then you'd have to blame the offense care the careless giveaway in the midfield. Sea Johnson is a GK many talk about having big time potential but I see him making careless mistakes with handling and positions on far too frequent a basis for me to rate him too highly... he's still young and has the size and athleticism but needs to improve a ton to be USMNT caliber. Whats crazy is that team was struggling throughout the tournament and even with that win wouldn't have been guaranteed a spot, they would have had to win another game and who knows if they would have been able to with how poorly they were playing. |
