Here's a clear bug in the system.

I didn't notice while I was doing it, but while optimizing my ticket prices, I set my standing room tickets (41 EUR) to more than my general tickets (38 EUR).
Now if that had to happen in the real world, the obvious result would be that general tickets would be sold out before a single standing ticket was bought, but that didn't happen. I sold lots of standing tickets and lots of general tickets.

More problematic is the fact that this makes it totally uneconomical to upgrade my standing room, because I'll be losing ticket revenue by doing so!

Something is a little messed up with the way market forces are simulated here...

Did you actually use the optimize function or were you manually optimizing to sell out each section? If you were manually doing it, you are probably missing out in revenue in your general section because you might make more by charging a higher price but not selling out.

Selling out is not always optimal in this game.

Also, you really need to build VIP seats. 18/07/2012 20:53

Sabrefan is correct.

"Fans" in the game don't go by any sort of logic. Best I can tell it's controlled by a mathematical equation. The equation appears to be "At X price Y number of fans will come to the stadium." (there are obviously factors determining why X number of fans will come to your game, but that seems to be the base of it.)

I believe the equation will also always "rank" each section, so VIP is the best, pro 2nd, general 3rd, and standing 4th. So if you had equal prices for all and the same number of seats in each, you'd get more fans in VIP than pro, more in pro than general, and so on.

I think the thing that's confusing you with your situation is the fact that you have more general seats than standing room, if you had equal seats, you would have seen your general seats sell out. You sold over 12,000 more general seats than you did standing.

You wouldn't be losing out on revenue by upgrading your standing room seats, you always want to be upgrading your stadium till you've got 30 K of both pro and VIP

Thanks for the tips, sabrefan. I am optimizing manually, and I know enough math to have worked that out as well
My problem with VIP seats is I never have enough patience to save up enough money to build them... if my previous renovations are complete, I feel this strong urge to start the next one already, and if I don't have 18m in the bank at the time, I feel like at least I should build a few more stands "in the meantime"...

You're right, that's clearly how they've modeled it; there are certain virtual fans who will only buy standing seats, and some who will only buy general seats, and they all have their own distinct price points that are totally independent of each other. IMHO the model is incorrect; they should be looking at the v-fans as one big group, who might decide to buy a nicer seat if the price is right, which is the way things work in the real world.
