Why are so many people surprised that we played defensively at the Bernabeu? Even in that defensive minded tactic we included some of our best attcking options in RvP, Rooney, Welbeck, Kagawa et al. It could've been even more defensive. Honestly, if you think you can take your team to any part of Europe and play as you want, you won't be around long enough to lift the trophy. There are very few teams who can do that. Madrid were fresh for this game, United had just played their best line-up against Everton on Sunday to go 12 points clear of Manchester City. a 1-1 draw gives United a slight advantage going into the second leg and that's all that counts. Chelsea won last year playing defensively and no one is going to say 50 years from now, that they played poor football. It's a valid tactic and if you want to cry about not winning then go ahead. SAF knows how to get the job done. |

Well, I only say it because Utd fans were pretty loud when Chelsea did it. Not that I care for Chelsea, but Utd was parked in their penalty for almost entire second half. No double standards. It cant be defensive game, marvelous tactics when Utd do it, and parking a bus when someone else does it. | 14/02/2013 13:51 |

LOL at the idiots who are talking about United playing 'defensive play' and speaking as though we 'parked the bus'. There is a difference between a team like Real being all over you, and having the skill to apply such pressure, to deliberately playing 10 men behind the ball like Chelsea did. Real are a better team. Doesn't mean we can't beat them, but it also means that they are more likely to dominate territory and possession. When you have the likes of Ozil, Di Maria and Ronaldo as your 3 attacking midfielders, coupled with having the ball distributed by Xabi Alonso, it's kind of difficult to keep the ball and the play up the pitch. That's NOT deliberately sitting behind the ball to defend. Duh. |
