Loaning out a player? The deal is usually set up so the player gets training he otherwise wouldn't get.

Loaning in a player? The team gets to use the player for the rest of the season.

For example, you specialize in training junior forwards and another team in your division specializes in training junior defenders. So you give the other team a junior defender you would like trained as he wouldn't get much out of your forward training and he sends you a forward he would like trained as that forward wouldn't get much out of the defender training. You guys swap players and give them training they otherwise wouldn't get.

In the senior squad it usually works a bit different as you take in players who will help you gain promotion. For example, you will be training senior forwards and have a good coach so you ask a team with a forward you like to loan the player to you as the player will help you win matches and in exchange you train that player for the other manager. You receive the benefits of promotion/winning matches and the other manager receives the benefit of having his player trained.
