Should free kicks be more accurate?

As the dominant tactic seems to involve crowding 6/7 defensive players just above the penalty box, hacking away at any striker brave enough to venture forwards, can we not improve the accuracy of free kicks? 06/07/2013 22:13

Thanks for the response, but that's not really the point of the post. 07/07/2013 16:41

Free kicks can be taken from various spots across the field. How much more accurate can you get than working your formations so the player kicking the ball kicks towards the goal or team mates. Do you mean penalty kicks? Those can be off a whole hell of alot sometimes. 07/07/2013 18:10

Haha, no, I mean free kicks! I wasn't entirely clear in my original post, but I meant free kicks in, let's say, a potential goalscoring position. I'm not referring to a post-offside defensive punt.

Before I explain the back story - I am not saying that free kicks should be a replacement for advanced tactics. I am well aware of their significance, but anyone who has had the hand of luck turn against them may see where I am coming from. Please let that be clear before another person advises I try advanced tactics. Please do not deviate from this point - that attacking free kicks should be more accurate.

What led me to make the post was a game on BR server, actually - I didn't post there as I would not have understood the responses, and I assume the issue carries over to other servers. Firstly, I am not saying I should have won the game - it's merely an observation based on what I deem to be an unusual situation. My team were fouled 16 times to 2 in return. A significant majority of the resulting free kicks were in potential and direct goalscoring positions, and as the 1-0 loss reflects, I didn't score any of them, with most going wildly wide. My team had significant possession, and a large amount of this was spent attacking. I had 10/23 shots v the opposition's 3/6. As such, I am not advocating that "negative" defensive tactics (hoping for a lucky free kick to even out someone who has smarter advanced tactics) should be in any way more "fair" than the result dealt to me, but hopefully my frustration gets across. In addition to this misfortune, the close marking injured my RW, OM and LF in the first 55mins, rendering my substitutes ineffective, and meaning I will be without 3 of my better players for Monday's game.

I reiterate the point that, while I understand the fickle hand of luck, both losing by it and benefiting from it, I am still sure I have a point valid of reflection in that the attacking free kicks in this game are often not the goalscoring weapons they perhaps might be. Penalties too, cmmccourt, though that's for a different thread.

Yes, not only that, the goal keepers should be more intuitive and not act like schmucks running up and down or making 3 looped jump to catch even most nonthreatening shot. So that accuracy of free kicks and 1 on 1 situations would be more balanced but not in the way it is now. 07/07/2013 19:33

I think free kicks should be more accurate. I mean, when was the last time you can remember scoring via free kick? 08/07/2013 00:03
