http://en.strikermanager.com/noticias_periodico.php?tipo=periodico&id_noticia=8398&inside=1 The news every Cherries fan has been dreading has finally come! Benjamin Gudbrod our longest serving player and club captain has decided now is the time to hang up his boots. Since arriving at AFCB Mercenaries in 2011 he has led the team from Division 6 to highest tier of Striker Manager, even if it was for only one season. During his 10 full seasons at AFCB Mercenaries he has seen the team grow tremendously, so much so he cannot keep up anymore and believes retiring is the right course of action. Benjamin Gudbrod racked up an amazing 13 levels of experience and 22 Hall of Fame points during those 10 seasons. Despite everyone dreading this moment, it has not come as a huge surprise as AFCB Mercenaries recently signed 25 year old Inner Midfielder, Stefan Lindner at a club record fee of 1.100.000.000 € on 27th June. Following this signing rumours began to spread on whether Gudbrod would be sold as he had passed his prime, so we asked Benjamin to tell us about why and how his decision to retire came about. This is what he had to say: "Well everyone is probably well aware of the fact that I had dropped to the bench for most games in the past few seasons, as I have gotten old and could not compete like I could do before. Last season was terrible for us and I would like to take the blame for that, so during pre-season I asked to hold talks with the manager about our situation. We both felt that my time here had come to an end and I never for one second thought about leaving to join another club, so we came to an agreement that when the club was able to sign a replacement, I would hang my boots up.. and that time has come." Benjamin Gudbrod then went on to give us quite an in depth interview, so we picked out the best parts. AFCB Reporter: "What do you make of Stefan Lindner? Is he the right man to replace you?" Benjamin Gudbrod: "Stefan is a great lad, he has magnificant talent and you can already see that on the pitch. So I can tell my decision to retire is right and he is definitely the right man for the job. He can achieve great things with AFCB Mercenaries." AFCB Reporter: "Now that your time is up, do you have any regrets?" Benjamin Gudbrod: "I certainly have no regrets with my decision to retire, although it would have been nice to have won a few more major honours, especially the Infamous 14 title. We came close a few times, but it wasn't meant to be. Since joining the Mercs upon their foundation the team has benefitted greatly, so it will be also very saddening to be leaving that amazing group as well, I salute you guys!" AFCB Reporter: "So what's install for you now that your career at AFCB Mercenaries is over and do you have a message for the fans?" Benjamin Gudbrod: "Even though I'm retiring, I won't be too far away... I love our fans and the club so I will be sticking around for sure. I would just like to say to everyone involved with AFCB Mercenaries that it's been an honour to serve this great football club and that no matter what never give up on them! It's also an honour to be the first player entered into our Hall of Fame and hopefully one day I might come back as a staff member but we'll see!" From everyone at AFCB Mercenaries and Infamous 14, we wish you the best of luck for the future. You were truly a one club player, you will be greatly missed! ***PLEASE HOLD A MINUTES SILENCE IN HIS HONOUR!*** |
