Okay. So, I've had a lot of newbie friends ask me tiring questions like "why the heck do I have to farm players?" I've searched through the forum for threads that properly explain the term, but found none. I guess I didn't check well anyway.

I have therefore decided to explain the essence of farming, so that I can easily link this thread to my inquisitive friends, and also other newbies can gain from it.

Here in SM, there is no specific coach to train a particular position as it is in real-life and other online managing games. There's just one coach which you hire from the STAFF menu. He's versatile as far as SM is concerned; he can train ANY position to your satisfaction.

Now, you have a bad team with low-averaged players, and you really need a 70-averaged team so you can contend for titles in your normal leagues and even PL.

This is where farming comes in handy.

Farming enables you to train several players of a particular position for a long period of time, till you are satisfied with their averages; of course, they MUST be marketable averages.

Once this is achieved, you should keep some and sell the rest.

This is the trick; lets say I want to train defenders only. I get 10 junior defenders of high progression (Learn more about progression ----> http://en.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=294666) and train them with the trainings beneficial to them only. (You can find it here ----> http://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0Ah_mRsFIHgwgdG85bnQxZ2kzc1ZiZlhLZkE4ekllMFE#gid=0)

When they are probably of a nice average, I will then sell them. With the money obtained from the sales, I can then use it to buy other desired positions that would fit into my tactics.

NB: You don't farm for the benefit of your team only. Farming is meant for your team to have good players of a particular position, and also to have stable income when you sell some of your farmed players.

Key Things To Note
- It applies to both senior and junior teams;

- SM training operations is designed using a 7-day model. Some would say, "I'll train GKs for 4 days, and forwards for 3 days".

It's no crime at all, but it's at your players' expense. They ought to be maximally trained, else there'll be a decline in their forecast.

- There are positions to train that when sold, they have good returns; this makes them expensive to purchase.

LDF/CDF/RDF, DFM, LIM/IM/RIM, OM, LF/CF/RF

There are also cheaper positions to train, that will yield fewer returns;

GK, LB/RB, LM/RM, LW/RW

Your choice is affected by your finances. Choose wisely.

- You must have 88+ coaches to be able to farm effectively.

- Start with low progression players (80-85%); they are very, very affordable irrespective of their positions.

Conclusion

Dear newbie, farming is not an unhealthy thing in SM as discussed here:

It's the surest way to survive. Many who run from it end up apologizing to themselves.

@s, feel free to edit this post and correct me where necessary.

Well, about cheapest position you could easily join GK and LDF/RDF.... about GK it is pretty clear from more seasons....about LDF/RDF it is a trend started no more than 2 season ago

Great work anyway

I have tried bidding for a few 90+ progression juniors GKs, and I have smelt my ass. I could barely withstand the war.
