Massively good bit of business here for Chelsea. Luiz is nowhere even remotely near being worth the 40£ being reported. He arrived for 21.3£ in January of 2011 and hasn't been a main feature in the first team since joining. He turned 27 this season and really doesn't seem to fit in the Mourinho mould, particularly being a big time defensive liability for someone who considers themselves a centre back. With Cahill being the technical, ball moving defender beside Terry, it is more likely they buy a burgeoning tackler to play beside him when Terry retires. Luiz can't play this role, which means he's stuck in holding midfield role. Here, both Ramires and Matic are younger and more suited. All in all, he's really just a squad rotation player at this point. If it makes you feel better, consider this. It has been reported that a 35£ deal for Diego Costa has been agreed with Atletico. I don't think anyone in their right mind would turn down a David Luiz for Costa + 5£, even if their life depended on it. |
