At the moment, goalkeepers are like just a person standing in the goal who attempt on closing down the open area when opponents are shooting. Most of the goals (or nearly all) occur because the goalkeeper doesn't close down his angle good enough. Also, i find that keepers only like dive rarely (if a top gk and a top striker face off and the striker shoots into the corner the goalkeeper doesn't even move)... Could there be a function which allows us to choose where the goalkeeper can stand when an opponent is at a certain distance? Especially those balls close to the posts, the keeper doesn't even go to the post, he still stands infront of it >.< Just like how we can choose in the formation the advanced option, to choose where field players are standing when the ball is at a certain point. But this time like also for the goalkeeper so that he knows where to stand when the ball is in his box. Also a preferred diving option would be nice And my 2nd proposal, would be that if the striker is like very close and shoots, if the keeper can at least dive in the direction which area is most likely to be open. Sometimes he's lucky that the shot is directly at him, but in a lot of cases it also causes the goalkeeper to stand still when the shot is in the corner. What do you guys think? GK's in the game are weird, their animations don't really correctly show relative to what the sim is doing I think. So for example when a keeper dives and the shot goes wide, I think some of those would actually be deflected corners in real life. Think of it as a RPG dice roll. If I have a 90 keeper and you have an 80 striker in a 1 v 1, I get 9 dice and you get 8 (this is very simplified), and that determines what happens to your shot. So if your keeper is out of place in the animation, it doesn't mean he can't stop the shot. On the flip side when you're getting scored on, it's not that the keeper isn't in the right spot necessarily. A shot that the gk isn't near doesn't mean that they had zero chance to stop, it just means the opponent got luckier than you on the "dice roll" So if you were allowed to position the keeper, more than likely he'd be out of position more that he is now. |

GK's appear notoriously stupid in the sim, much like Joe Hart on occasion. Although I like the idea of being able to choose, within reason, where the GK is positioned I am not sure how that would affect the sim. It may actually make the GK worse. One other point, however, is that in the higher Div where there are more skilled and higher avg GK, you see a lot more diving and closing in on the opponent. If you watch a friendly between higher div teams that goes to PK's, you will see GK dive and stand still with the ball being placed in the same part of the net. They do dive, it just may be much less in lower div. |

So sort of that the goalkeeper makes it more nervous for the striker when he shoots, increasing the chances he would shoot wide, when he has higher goalkeeping? But why not show the animation of more divings than though, instead of just an invisible shield? Now it just seems that strikers with higher shooting against higher goalkeepers miss just as much as when a lower striker shoots against a lower goalkeeper... |

You're confusing two different things, 1) whether GK's are any good at all (diving, angles, challenging, etc.) and 2) strikers shooting ability. I've already addressed the former and as to the latter, some seasons ago the dev's changed the ability of strikers to hit the target. If they had not done so, we would see US football like scorelines with goals in the 20's. So don't necessarily think that the striker shooting wide is because the GK made him nervous. |

One issue in the GK is that they might block the shot but the ball stays on the goal line.. There should be a way to implement blocking the ball by the GK into a corner for the opposing team. |
