Ok, this is getting ridiculous now. And while it's not actually affected any league games to date, it will at some point, so I need to resolve this as soon as possible. All I want to do is use substitutes. I have set up a whole number of advanced tactics that come into play if I'm a goal up or a goal down but they're subtle changes in the way the team play so it's difficult to really see if they're working, but judging by the fact my substitutes are never coming on (actually once it happened!!!) I can only assume none of my advanced tactics are coming into play. So, the question is what am I supposed to do? Where am I going wrong? Here's how I set up substitutes... so perhaps someone can spot what I'm doing wrong... 1. In the LINE-UP screen I pick the formation, choose the players and click SAVE. Then I click on the arrow next to the formation name (where you change formations) and click on SET. This brings up the formation screen. 2. The FORMATION screen completely ignores the formation I had just chosen and displays the team in (NEW FORMATION 5 – I have four formations that I've created)!!! So I click on the name of the formation that I had previously chosen (which I've conveniently named START). Now my formation is correct again. Now I click on the red TACTIC button/option. Again, this always defaults to the first new/unmade tactic, in my case NEW TACTIC 5 (obviously I've customised four and the game is going to the first new/unused option – new tactic 5 in this case). 3. So in the TACTIC screen I click on the appropriate tactic which I call MEDIUM PASS (based on how I've set this tactic up). Incidentally this is always ACTIVE as it's the tactic i always use and start with. Now I'm ready for it to all go wrong with the advanced tactics. I click on the ADVANCED TACTIC red button/option. 4. In the ADVANCED TACTIC screen I have set up formation and tactic changes based on whether my team are winning and losing. I have also set up three substitutes to change after 60 minutes. Previously I had tried to set up advanced tactics that conflicted and a message displayed this, and I resolved the problem. So based on my first team selection, and available substitutes, I change the advanced tactic set up for substitutes. So they're all done, ready to go, no conflicts. So after ensuring the players to be substituted are correct, and the list of advanced tactics all on (because the red button option, down the right hand side, under ACTION reads DEACTIVATE I click on whatever menu option on the left to continue playing around; buying players, making sandwiches!!, manufacturing keyrings, whatever. As I mentioned above, in all but one game my advanced tactics are being ignored!?!?! I'm confused about this ADVANCED TACTICS screen. At the bottom of the screen is ADD TACTIC. It's obvious what this does, and is logical. Next to that is a SET button. Clicking on this brings up two options; ACTIVATE and DEACTIVATE. It appears that this functions works along with the tick boxes running down the left hand column of the list of advanced tactics you've set up. This seems pretty logical. Although I'm confused why it's there when down the right hand column of the advanced tactics list (ACTION) is a red button with ACTIVATE and DEACTIVATE, which appears to do exactly the same thing (switching on or off the advanced tactics you've set up). I assume that an active advanced tactic has the red button option (under the ACTION column) displaying DEACTIVATE... as in turn this action off. And an advanced tactic that isn't switched on displays the red button ACTIVATE, as in switch this option on. This seems logical, and I believe my assumptions on how this works are correct (although at this stage I don't know any more – I have never struggled with any video game feature as I have with this). I don't know if there's a bug in this side of the game. If the game isn't able to handle five or six advanced options at once. I don't get it. And it's ridiculous, annoying and will eventually (if it hasn't already with friendly games) ensure I lose games that I could otherwise have won or drawn. I believe I'm not the only one who is struggling to get advanced tactics to work. I watch all the games my team plays (and I've also watched random ones within my league) and to date I've only ever seen one team, in a friendly game, substitute players!!!! So clearly I'm either not alone in not being able to get this to function or nearly everyone playing this football manager game doesn't think it's necessary to substitute players (which absolutely cannot be true). Making subs is an essential part of the game and it needs to work properly, easily, and be understood by everyone. I need to understand how it works. So please someone tell me where I'm going wrong, or what hidden special key I have to press, or if there's a (unspecified, hidden from the general public) number of advanced options you can run at one time. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Edited by Agent-X- 28-11-2014 22:10 |

I didn't read everything you wrote because it seems that your problem is mixing time based tactics with situation based tactics. If you mix both time based and situation based tactics, the system sometimes (or often) doesn't trigger subs coming into the game because of conflicts between the the time based and situ based tactics. Stick to one or the other and your subs will come on. |

Yes, it's true, I had several advanced tactics running, or at least I wanted to. I had a change in tactic, and changes in formation as new players came on. Actually I've already cleared out all the advanced tactics I had set up and was effectively going to do as you said, by experimenting, bringing in one new advanced tactic at a time, starting with subbing the players first. Anyway, thanks for your reply. I'll watch tomorrow's game, as I always do and hope that those lazy subs get out there and do some work. If I didn't know better, I'd have assumed there was some rather clever AI going on, and the players were just going on strike for starting the game on the bench! Actually there may be some clever AI going on because I witnessed a newly signed player (who may have been upset to leave his old team) take a free kick from my goal area, only to boot the ball straight into my goal! Ok, so it was a bug, but it was probably the easiest own goal any opposition manager is likely to see. Fortunately it didn't matter as it was a friendly game, and I was always going to lose because the team had players between two to three times the stats of mine. (incidentally, if any developers of the game read this, I think I know how and why this happened, if you're interested!). |

That own goal happens occasionally. Also, if you were changing formations, you need to make sure that when you set up the formations the players leaving the pitch have the same position numbers as the players entering the pitch. Otherwise, the players will play out of position and with a lower average. For example, if I play 433 LDF CDF CDF RDF LIM IM RIM and I want to switch to 343 with LDF CDF RDF DFM LIM RIM OM, then the CDF going off needs to have the same position number as the DFM coming on and the IM leaving needs to have the same position number as the OM coming on. By position number, I mean the number when you are in the advanced formation making it, not the jersey number you can assign in the squad page. |

Yeah, already ahead on that one.. along with the new players I have the formation change to suit their position. For tomorrow's game I've only got one advanced tactic running... a couple of subs, and formation change. Hopefully that'll work, and when it does I'll slowly start to build in more advanced tactics. I have another little question. I think I know what the answer will be, but I'll ask anyway. There are many situations, as I watch the game, where I see players starting to run into trouble, usually the most forward player with the ball, and I find myself talking to game/monitor/myself, saying "Pass the ball... pass back... give the ball to him!!!!" But the players nearly always try to dribble past the opposition, and passing back seems to be the least likely thing on their little AI brains. Is this just a limitation to the gameplay? Is this because the players are still a bit rubbish (because their cheap and generally not very talented)? Or is there something I'm overlooking regarding getting players to pass a bit more, and specifically pass a bit more intelligently? I'm sure I'll find out in due course, but it would be useful to pick your brains on this one. I have to say having this much control in a game like this is really nice, and a pleasant change from the simpleton tactics and options in (from my experience) all other online manager games. Am I correct in saying that we can't watch matches live? Sorry, I'm still pretty new to this so I'm still learning how everything works. By the way I only found this game by chance after deciding a couple of manager games I had been playing were (well the nicest way of putting it is...) not for me!! Recently I started near on a dozen and this has definitely proved to be the best by a fair margin. What's surprising is it's not marketed better and advertised more. It needs to be. It should be the most popular free online manager game out there. It's just a shame about the abundance of cheaters in the game... although I've been messaging details to one of the admin staff (unfortunately for him) of all the obvious ones I've spotted to date (fortunately these guys are pretty dumb, which probably explains why they cheat in the first place, and mostly obvious). But apart from that, I'm loving the options to control larger aspects of the on-pitch game play. UPDATE; I guess this is as good a place to mention this as any... Occasionally when I click on one of the buttons in the game, on the main page, I get two files download to my computer! Fortunately they don't affect me, but I'm assuming these might not be good news for PC gamers. The information for where one of them comes from is... http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-3556373221332003&format=728x90&output=html&h=90&slotname=6165054970&adk=2920233150&w=728&lmt=1417232358&ea=0&flash=15.0.0&url=http://en.strikermanager.com/bannertop.php&dt=1417235958688&bpp=5&bdt=29&shv=r20141113&cbv=r20141119&saldr=aa&correlator=103197763585&frm=23&ga_vid=1813643677.1417235959&ga_sid=1417235959&ga_hid=608430379&ga_fc=0&u_tz=60&u_his=100&u_java=1&u_h=1200&u_w=1920&u_ah=1177&u_aw=1916&u_cd=24&u_nplug=8&u_nmime=69&dff=times&dfs=15&adx=17&ady=3&biw=1040&bih=781&isw=1000&ish=99&ifk=3272663141&eid=317150304&oid=3&ref=http://en.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=415380&m=1667624&top=http://en.strikermanager.com/inicio.php&rx=1&eae=2&fc=8&brdim=135,23,135,23,1916,23,1263,1015,999,98&vis=1&abl=NS&ppjl=u&fu=4&ifi=1&dtd=1750 I'm not sure what's going on here, and I'm not sure if PC gamers even see these files download. Is this legitimate? Should this game download files to peoples computers? And while I wasn't aware until it happened that such a thing did go on, shouldn't people be notified if this game downloads files to their computer?? UPDATE... Yes... it finally worked! I cleared out all the advanced tactics and just had players substitute along with the formation change. Actually, it's a double YES!!!! Because not only did the substitutes pay off, I actually won the game. And to top it off, I actually beat a cheating team! Yeah, a team full of players who were all purchased at incredible bargains (I've already reported this through the official channels). And if that's not satisfying enough his team was full of players averagely rated from the mid 60s up to mid 70s and my team averaged mid 30s, with my lowest at 13!!! and two in the mid 40s. 2-1. So hopefully within a couple of days I'll find out he's been banned for being a cheat and he'll leave knowing that he really is so sh&t at gaming, even cheating, and having a far superior team still wasn't enough for him. I've no illusions that he'll be straight back, building another cheating team within the network he's part of. So that score really is 2-1 to honesty, or perhaps 2-1 to tactics/strategy and ability or maybe it's just a loss to a piece of useless, talentless gaming sh$t. Now let's hurry up and get this guy, and all of his cheating friends, out of here. And I look forward to reporting more cheats as I find them (incidentally... are you guys proactive regarding seeking out cheaters... because you might want to look right at the top of the tree!!!! ...only joking, I know you're not going to touch those guys for the fact they've got that far and are still there). Ok, so thanks for reply yesterday/earlier. It was a clash. I don't care to recreate the problem, but if I do accidentally and my subs don't work again, if I know what's caused it, I'll report my findings (although I'm not sure where i should do this). So in theory if you guys can clear these cheaters out of the way quickly enough I won't have to battle these unfair fights and can just play against proper gamers, smart gamers (ones where strategy really will be needed).
