I’ve read a few comments from Striker Manager users on what they would like to see changed, or thoughts on what they think is wrong with the game. I think everyone’s opinion is valid and there are plenty of worthwhile suggestions. However, approaching this from a different angle, the big question, the real issue is; what was needed to generate a larger audience, what could have been done to make this game popular and successful. So I’m interested in why people think this game isn’t as popular as some of its competitors and what could have been done.

For me the biggest issue is related to marketing, advertising and specifically access to the game. The most popular social networks have hundreds of millions of users, many of whom play a whole variety of free online games, with a percentage playing direct competitors to this game. While I am unaware of the stipulations and rules governed by these sites for hosting video games it would appear to be a massive loss of potential customers for a developer to not do everything in their power to ensure their game is available on these sites. This, to me, is the biggest difference between Striker Manager and its sequel. I also think the new game’s popularity will demonstrate whether the lack of players for this game was in part due to Striker Manager being starved of the opportunity of being available to the vast number of gamers on social networking sites. Over time the eventual popularity, or failure of the sequel, will demonstrate whether the biggest error with Striker Manager was simply down to marketing.

As far as advertising is concerned – whether it be direct advertisements, internet based or print, or simply staying in touch with video game media outlets – to not concentrate on such a lifeline to new customers has to be a potential loss of new customers. It was once ridiculous to imagine a game being advertised on TV. Now we see that some free online games have generated enough profit to produce television advertisements. The earning potential for a free online game is huge. Simply put; the less people know of a product the fewer customers it will generate.

Other areas of the game that I believe may make it less popular are related to the basic game mechanics. But in order to avoid upsetting or angering the people that take offence to criticisms of the game’s features I won’t elaborate. Plus I don’t want to influence anyone’s opinion and would prefer to hear what others believe to be the problems of why this game isn’t popular.

I think SM is for hardcore football maniacs like many of us.
A lot of players quit at first few weeks coz this game need a lot of patience, long term plan, good form/tactic e.t.c
This is still best game for me even if they dont fix the sim its still good enough, before sim was joke we played all with 6 mids and read comments during game.
I agree this game needs more marketing.
Garbage is popular nowadays not quality maybe this is one of the reasons.

I totally agree that the advanced formation, while being a unique and excellent feature allowing micro-management of the team, when not used causes big problems and must lower the enjoyment for casual gamers. I'm sure it must look as wrong and disappointing to newcomers using basic formations as it does to experienced Striker Managers. I think you've hit the nail on the head that ultimately Striker Manager is a more hardcore game than most. And unfortunately pure hardcore games are always destined to have a smaller audience than more simplistic ones.

Interestingly Striker Manager 2 overcomes the problem and using basic formations, not touching advanced tactics isn't as big a disadvantage and at least has your players move around more naturally, allowing the casual gamers to better compete than in this one. Being a fan of hardcore games, the harder, the more complex, the better, I hadn't really considered this a hardcore game, but I think you're absolutely right. But what we love about this game, what allows us to get more from this game when ignored is too big a handicap for the casual gamer.

As far as patience and long term plans go; are you suggesting that the length of a season in this game may put people off? This game is certainly unique in that its seasons are far longer than most manager games. The most popular online manager games tend to have shorter seasons, lasting one month in real time.

I' m new to this game, I' m looking for a complex and realistic game. I 'm more interested my player managment than buisness around the team.
I didn't see any advertise for SM, juts look for "best online football game"and found this game

My first feeling is that the display is not clear, few help availaible and tutotrial is not famous.
I don't understand after match statistics and I don't see where I can find some help.
the help available in game is very superficial and don't give deep information.
I was also worried about development, seems nothing since 2013?

I'm ready to pay to play if the game is good, I prefer to pay to play a good game than to play free a poor game.
for now I don't know if I stay in this game or not

I think the game was at its best when the sim first came out, and slowly the addition of new rules has taken a lot of the fun away that once was. I'm a firm supporter of server resets after a fixed length of time and I think this would bring back a lot of the passion and allow new players an even keel.

That being said I doubt it will happen, but i think it would make the game more popular.

No need for reset,no point in building team 3+ years to reset.
Even if someone join this game now will have his chance to challenge best teams if he do his homework and make good long term plan.
Its about enjoying the ride, moving through divisions, build your stadium and team slowly coz when you get to ~90avg team you can challenge any team.

Opening new server i think will kill both servers.

Completely agree with you
And not to say that if let say it is announced to be reset in 6months for instance, teams joining now will prefer wait before really starting playing and therefor will move to another game and never come back, while for all the others, we will stop spending GBs, and without that, the game will close.

if any change, they could short the season like in SM 2 with less team per group, but I prefer like it is now 08/02/2015 03:04
