Both have qualities and defects.
LDF / RDF's mainly serve to create a barrier in the rear, being thus great recuperators of ball; Pass aren't your fort.

LB / RB's are good for burglary and can also be trained to pass.

If your team needs ACCURACY, use LDF / RDF's along with LIM / RIM's; If you need SPEED, use LB / RB's with LM / RM's.

It all depends on the scheme you want to use along with your tactics and pressure lines. Of course, I'm open to all divergent opinions.

That's it, hug it!

In general, most managers use xDF and xIM instead of xB or xM. The belief is that xDF/xIM (and xF instead of xW) are superior players in SM. That makes the inside players xDF/xIM/xF more expensive.

There are some managers that have been very, very good with outside players but as far as I know, they haven't revealed their secrets.

I used xB, xM, and xW on my way from Div 6 to Div 3 because it was affordable and I was able to make it work. I then switched to xDF, xIM, and xF in order to be able to compete to get to Div 2. I never really tried anything different with xB and xM - just used them in defense as I would with other players, so perhaps I was lucky, but it got me there nonetheless.

There are many managers who use xM as attacking midfielders with success.

The one complaint I have with xB, is that the dev's really haven't programmed them to work the way that wingbacks play in real life. They don't seem to have the stats to cross or pass the ball upfield and certainly don't score.

If the devs programmed them accordingly, it would add a great new dimension to the game, revitalize the market, and start shocking some upper division managers who seem to focus on minute differences to get to/stay in Div 1.

Can you imagine a using a LB LDF CDF RDF RB formation where those backs ran up the field and crossed? Or were used on a corner and scored?

I used to let xb move forward near the corner flag so they can cross. Of course against weaker teams.. it was fun to watch ... But Sadly this sim doesn't pay attention to the xb that much. 07/04/2017 11:34

I have already used LB / RB / LM / RM but their function is very specific within Striker Manager.

LB / RB are much more efficient in the man to man than the LDF / RDF, of course, this in theory exposes its defense; LM / RM are very effective in counterattacks but are inefficient in stolen ball.

This is my thinking.

In order to be effective with such positions, a lot of testing is required as well as a study of how they work in the simulator ... It's complicated but if you get a good result.

Well you can use the xdf,xim and xf. But make sure you have lm and rm. Mine are always at the wing, playing as lw and lb,going to and fro. 09/04/2017 02:58

I believe that xDFs are better because they are more secure and balanced in the marking and pass, but xB has a great advantage that is the speed to dispute in the race against fast attackers.
Or in my opinion depends on the tactic that will do because both have qualities and defects.
