Can anyone give me a ballpark on how many stars & silver stars there are in the game? The reason I ask is that i propose that the DEVS create juniors that are not stars but can develop into them. An example would be any prog 80+ player once they reach 17-18 yrs old or reaches 75+ avg they can acquire their star potential. These players can not be GB searched, these will be strictly lottery style players so that we can level the playing field slightly for those who can NEVER get a star player. The great thing about this is the nature of the development because it forces managers to train, if they want, or let the player waste away & never reach star potential.

For example someone finds a player RW, IM, or OM prog 80 +,14-16 yrs old they wont know they have a star until they train them & get into the 3 season! If this player isnt picked up, discarded from school or sits on the bench & never trained then no star is born. If a lower division LUCKILY finds this player & does train them he will be able to sell or keep. If he decides to sell, there are plenty of managers looking for stars & it will move more money from the higher DIV to the lower.

Major POINT: This should be only instituted at a very small percentage hence the word LOTTERY!!!

I'm gonna try and give a better response than the last one, if possible and play devil's advocate.

Overall I like the idea, but can also see some reasons why it wouldn't be implemented. It couldbe good or bad for the devs and the game.

There are already good hidden gems out there available to those who GB search. Not stars, admittedly, but some run it pretty close. Also, I don't think the benefits to the devs (a more competitive game, fairer distribution of wealth) will outweigh the negative press/feeling of GB being unable to buy something which is actually there. Adding a small weight to, or devaluing the GB. Another point is that I think that those who buy GBs, who actually support the game, don't really want the game to get fairer, cynic alert I know, but instead what's best for them which isn't things real money can't buy. Lastly, I am gonna stick my neck out further and say that 90% of those who could benefit won't. I see there are currently 6343 active managers in the game. If a single star was given to a random manager in the game, and assuming they are all still active and that there are more full leagues at the top than at the bottom, there is around a 25% chance that player will end up with a manager in Div 1-4, and a 75% chance that player will end up in Div 5 or 6. Sweeping generalization time - there's a good chance the manager who receives that player won't train him properly, and thus a star is ruined. Or what if he's an OM who lands at a team who trains GK? He may also go undiscovered. Or will it encourage people to train all positions? That's not good for the game.

That said, I said I liked the idea and I do. I think it would also create a stir, which may get GB being bought too. I think it could be used to spur managers in lower divisions to train something, anything, and that would be good for the game in general, no doubt. Knowing there's a golden ticket out there, people are gonna start looking for shiny candy bars. A manager may see that his player has increased a lot in the last few days and start to wonder, and do a prog check. That's what the devs want, and what the game needs if it wants to survive. If the star was given a low salary but a relatively high RC (so high loyalty, if I'm not mistaken) like $350 per week, 12m RC, this could be a way forward. A lower division manager who isn't aware of what he has missed will still be very happy with that sale, and even more so with the formation rights of his next sale. Saying that, that player would stand out and be hostiled pretty quick unless there are others who look the same but aren't stars, sort of a Kinder egg. I also simply like the lottery aspect of just a single star being out there, I think it would be fun, and that's what the game is really supposed to be.

I think it would be fun to have some Ian Wright or Miroslav Klose characters in the game, but I have no idea what the knock-on effect would be!

Well the thing is no one will benefit especially if they arent trained right. The fact that anyone of these unknown stars might not be "discovered" is a good thing because they dont add or detract from the game. If you get lucky & find him great, if you dont it doesnt matter. The fact that you mentioned the lack of training by lower managers is something that i have also noticed & this could maybe stir up some consistent training w/ the promise of a STAR. I think you might be way off w/ the release clause because it defeats the purpose of the lottery aspect. Having this faux elevated RC kinda of singles out the player from the start & it then loses its mystery & you want the mystery or else you will get a large amount STARS being born. The point of the lottery style development is the fact that you CANT tell he is a star not that he has a high development. The fact that i stipulated that being a star in this scenario would consist of prog 80 + you cant just unlock his FC to see because only when you get to a certain age or avg will you be able to tell.

This is already part of the game in a sense. Anyone who has one of the 5* schools at excellent level has a chance to get a "star" sure they might not be 100 prog with the star by their name, but you can still get a player with incredible prog like that from a school for absolutely nothing. Stars are something that only the rich teams will have, but it's really a small portion of teams that actually own a star (list of stars is here BTW http://en.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=256881). That doesn't mean they're invincible, I've beaten a number of teams that had stars, and while yes I am in div 2, I've assembled my team on a budget for the most part, and have never really had the money to splash on a big $$ player.

That said, I do like the idea of players that are volatile and more of a risk, which is what happens in football. It probably adds too much complexity to the game, but it would be fun to train a player for a few seasons and then see his average jump 10 points in a week. On the flipside it wouldn't be as fun to see a player drop 10 points in a week (which you would also have to have to keep the balance). I just don't think it's possible in the current engine.

Here is a different take:

Lottery style star junior - random to someone who has a school. You make it invisible unless you have GB's. You make the star search a different GB search and more expensive, say 250 or 500 GB's for the star search.

That would stimulate some GB spend which is what the dev's need.

And if that player ended up in a team that has been in existence for more than 4 seasons, after the next season update, you would certainly see some money change hands or get taken out of the game with the no (R) change coming.
