Here's the rule that was supposedly violated:
2) It is forbidden to take advantage of some fault of the game.
If a manager discovers an error or bug in the system, is obliged to inform an administrator or via e-mail to info@strikermanager.com.

fault = known or discovered programming error/bug.

Here's the infomation that was given prior to the ned of the season about the players going to auction.

@ranru
- Players with less than 1 year contract will leave his team, and stay in the game without team. These players will be automatically put to auction with a price appropriated to the average, age and position of the player.

@ranru said:

So if their average is 50 , 20 years old , GK . Starting price can be 5 million
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=255785

Noteworthy to note that no mention of what happens to a player AFTER he is not sold.
Search only gives 1 page of results, so I can't look for posts about it.

Following here are the Known behaviors in striker manager -
release clauses are invalidated by auctions
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=254698

@internat
Players can be picked up for free through the use of a scout
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=252546

The realease clause is the barrier that prevents your player being stolen by other teams.
@internat
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=252547

Again, no mention of what happens when a releases clause is invalidated through auction, and the players are left as free agents.
I even wrote about armageddon coming in this form in striker news..
"- I'll don't care how much I'm paid, just get me off this team!

Everyone from stars to the youngest of the youth are clamoring for a chance to resurrect their flagging careers, and the supreme council on Striker Manager is poised to grant them their wish, by voiding the contracts before a fan riot. "

But there was no solid information in the forums.

There were a few threads that were very wary of what was going on, and one in particular where this sort of behavior was discussed:
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=255785
(Monday/Tuesday last week

I made this statement in regard to $0 players being available
"There should be good players left over if all inactive players are released to the market.

The question is, with a market saturation, would the prices determined (roughly equal to initial release clause based on ability?) by admin really be reflective of their actual value? or will it create an artificial price floor?"

Note the words "LEFT OVER"

Beachbernie:
"Within a few hours I saw all my good work reduced to nothing and I realized I had to start from scratch unless I wanna end up with a team that is the laughing stock of the league. What would You have done in my place?"

My response:
"I would have worked to crush the opposition if I was in your position. Soaking the "free" market for all it was worth. "

Nasregas made what would appear to be a somewhat prophetic statement:
"I love it...n support it,now to get @ranru to read this...just post a highly-disgruntled thread on qsns n ans threatening to leave this game and sue everyone..n put a link to this page in that thread!"

Now let's take a look at how the weekend played out...

Last Thursday
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=255960
"Missing Parameter" Problem
- This is the error that would eventually come up if you attempted to hire a $0 free agent that was already claimed by another team.
ExAMPLE: Player goes off of auction into free agent market
two managers pull up "Hire" screen"
First manager to click "Send" offer gets the player
Second manager to click "Send" gets message "missing parameters"
MISSING PARAMETERS = PLAYER PROTECTED FROM HOSTILE CLAUSE
No admin responded in this thread

Friday & Saturday people started noticing that you can find Free agents who weren't successfully auctioned via coaching secretary.
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=256201
Saturday Morning (US)
- difference between hiring/buying
- But where do you find the players who where not bought in the auction? LEFT UNANSWERED

Saturday Night -
No one bids for him, he becomes a free agent -
http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=256285

So Player becomes free agent, goes to market. NO ADMIN SAID ANYTHING ABOUT AFTER A FAILED AUCTION.
The very same players could be found with no problem whatsoever with a coaching secretary search of no team = YES
This, again, to a player would be expected behavior.

http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=256285
No the player stays in his team if no one bids. The player becomes a free agent when his contract expires.
If that happend the game puts that player into auction so everyone can have it you can't sign him free.

http://uk.strikermanager.com/foros/hilo.php?id=256201
But where do you find the players who where not bought in the auction? Saturday, 18 06:37
LEFT UNANSWERED

i have faced this problem the entire day. finally i have given up. initially i got good players for free but the missing parameters crap came up. may be i will wait till tomorrow for buying more players. Friday, 17 13:15

Yeah, b4 it worked great. Bt it seems it only happens with my coach.sec. Doesnt happen with the players that my scout shows me.

Admin who participated:
@Daniel Adair
@Dnsvnsk
@Fermin#27#
@Karagounis

So here's what you have:

Now, there were signs in the forums all weekend that this "Bug" was occurring. at least 2 admins even acquired players in this fashion.

So here's what you have
1) Release clause protects players
2) Auction invalidates release clause
3) all players go to auction with minimum amount, those who aren't bought become free agents
4) Free agents are signed with no release clause.

Now, where's the bug that was taken advantage of. All signs pointed to this being expected behavior, and 2nd tier teams were put in a catch 22
1 - Do nothing, and watch everyone take good players as free agents no release clause
2 - Get a piece of the action and improve your team.

Admin had several chances to respond, and failed to do so, indicating that it wasn't a bug at best, and giving a tacit approval to the behavior at worst.

The rule says that
2) It is forbidden to take advantage of some fault of the game.
If a manager discovers an error or bug in the system, is obliged to inform an administrator or via e-mail to info@strikermanager.com.

fault = known or discovered programming error/bug.

WHAT HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND WAS EXPECTED BEHAVIOR! FOUR ADMINS ACQURIED PLAYERS THIS WAY!
I'm sorry you don't feel @Rand & @Shengli, but given the information we had, and the notable lack of response, then we as players had no choice but to take action.

Do not punish players for working within a system that was behaving as expected, and failed because of an oversight, and produced unexpected results.

I in no way took advantage of a known bug or fault in the game.
I acquired free agents without paying release clauses to teams, because they belonged to no team.
I was given no reason to think this was wrong, because admins were participating.

So I am innocent of the charge. Restore my players back to their original values, or give me my team as it was last week.

btw, I am the person that acquired the 125M player. I assure you that anyone that knew about it was trying to get him. He came off auction during the server training period, when you can't get online into the game.
I didn't get him because I have a faster connection. Most players are much closer to your servers than I am, and 95% of the time, I was beaten by others.

Seriously, you are punishing your most active players by making their teams worse than they were a week ago, because they realized that "free agent" meant "FREE AGENT"

20% Penalty on every player is a ridiculous punishment for a crime that wasn't committed.

If you want to put the genie back in the bottle, restore the server to end of season, and restart. Don't chop its head off.

I am evaluating my options.

added the following:
if you think acquiring free agents for $0 release is not realistic
http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2011/06/16/premiership-free-agents-2011-list-summer-transfers-released-players/

in the US, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL...every league has what are called unrestricted free agents, with the club losing the player receiving no compensation. (or very very small amounts)

Players are traded and sold for a pittance every year within 6 months of end of contract ... so yes, you can acquire great players for free in the real world.

I can only give a lot of RESPECT for the time and effort you put in this post.
All of it is objective and true. I can't see how any admin can neglect this..

Many will appreciate and agree with it.

Hopefully the admins would read it, discuss it and post an apology and reconsideration of the rule.

This is a very keen observation. However I'm afraid that the admins will ignore it, and you won't recieve an answer, because you're telling the truth 20/06/2011 18:17

Very accurate observation, yet they will just ignore this as they are too proud to admit they were wrong. Just like the nazis. 20/06/2011 18:20

no. not like the nazi's

They systematically and willfully destroyed people they didn't like...as a race, for no reason.

The admins just made an oversight, then a mistake, and then hastily attempted to correct based on poor assumptions, resulting in unintended consequences.

Really it's a series of unfortunate events, or watching trainwreck...in slow motion.

Golden Ball

They have 18 hours before the next series of league games.

They have already been vilified for taking actions that haven't been thought through, so taking quick action now would be adding to their misery....no matter what the solution.

They can buy more time by restoring the 20%, but then you have the perceived advantage, still.

At this point it becomes crisis management 101...all variants of the following...

[form team, pick a single spokesperson, etc.]
1. communicate to stakeholders, take ownership of problem without blame (ownership = It is a problem, and I have this, and I will resolve it)
2. Successfully identify and communicate root cause
3. Gather useful input into one place
4. Develop resolution
5. Communicate resolution
6. Implement resolution
7. Communicate follow up

Stay on message at every step.

You are currently in step 1. No one has stopped to consider the cause, and everyone is panicking because there is a game tomorrow.

Reacting to crisis is the worst thing you can do. In order to move quicker, you have to think and act slower.

Like I said, there's almost no way to put this genie back in the bottle, so they have to find a way to contain it without pissing it off. Last season players went for free
