Maybe it is because of the prize money, maybe it is because of the promotion/relegation, maybe it i the mix of managers, but whatever it is, the PL is less an exchange of ideas proving ground than it is a pure competition. Unless and until that changes, I'll treat the PL as an income generator and enjoy healthy competition among friends and treat friendlies against stronger opponents as my tactical playground. yeah. Friendlies do the tactical work the best just 'cos of the effort thing. Buh, all-in-all, can't wait to get a laptop, (& stop the when chanced thing), then, i'll be able to create problems for myself to solve and gradually become better. |

I agree with the peculiarities. I always thought, but never enough/cared enough to comment before, that the beta friendlies seem to sap our little guys' green-red bars faster than in regular matches. Just a theory, though. I guess this has an impact on some stuff, including, as @vgates says the impact of subs. Following on from this, if subs are super effective when your fitness is being drained in friendlies, the opposite may be true in a 0% effort environment. I also have different tactics (not just effort) for the PL games as some stuff is just more effective at high effort compared with low effort. @vgates has aways said he is looking for a PL in which people shared tactical advice, and yet I can't recall any of his own tactical pearls here. That's not meant to be a criticism, not if it wasn't of the PL I am partly responsible for creating wasn't anyhow, because I think he is right to withold. @vgates is my go-to guy when I want to talk tactics, but we do it via PM. This PL is not closed, and even if it was, the door is not. Many people in this PL I would actually call friends in the game, not just for achievement points. However, there are many, most who have chosen to play fair, a few who have not, with whom I have little or no interaction. That's perfectly normal, I think. I am not claiming to be clever tactically, and nor will I ever be. I know more than some, less than others. That is obvious, as I am neither in Div 1 nor Div 6. A lot of people have said they want this but I see a lot more cards being held close to chests. A lot more people, in this PL and in general, prepared to consume and criticise, than offer and praise. All I ask of people is that they treat me fairly. My recent blanket decision to stop divulging out any kind of tactical thoughts - call it advice if you will - is felt mostly by those closer to me, as the closer they are to me, the more it seems 'unfair', and that is mostly true of this PL, with whom I have the most time and most interactions. Recently, however, I have been getting the distinct impression that I have not been treated fairly. My name has been banded around, without warrant as far as I'm concerned, as being good tactically. In some cases this is meant as a compliment, so thank you for that. However, some people, I won't name names, have chosen to 'refer' me to others, like I owe anyone anything, should actually feel indebted to anyone in this game, like I'm some commodity who can be ordered. Strip that last sentence down to its root components, as objectively as you can, without bias or prejudice, and you should really get to the conclusion that I owe nothing to anybody in this game. So, I receive PMs, asking for my help with tactics. In some cases I put in some effort, as I can see something of the team I like. In others I say, simply, no, I won't help. Now this season I have been receiving a lot of these messages, I think because I am the only one stupid enough to respond to some at all. And that's OK. I don't like it, but fine. I advise a team. I say fill this gap, move that guy there, play this kind of defense, and you know what, sometimes it works. Yay, thanks so much (in about 40% of cases), but can you help me win the next game? Or worse, I see on their respective forums them telling people how great 'they' are. However, imagine if they lose the game! What!?! You couldn't help my 50avg team beat that 60avg team?! In a few (admittedly small number) of cases I even got some angry replies. Why? I didn't ask for an appraisal, a review. I won't say from who, but it has happened. I would say my breakdown is 20% genuine gratitude, 20% "thanks, but...", 55% no response (sometimes ever), 5% angry response. Here's another breakdown - amount it helps me: 0%. I have also noticed, and this is a little closer to home, that those teams who I help are better against me. Big deal, you may think, that's why they ask for help. But consider this hypothesis: I have played a friendly, or series of friendlies, or identified things I consider to be a problem, as they are the things I am looking at when I want to exploit a team's weaknesses. In this way I have effectively handed over my war chest for nothing - some game theorist, some negotiator I must be! Some teams who I go on to help, then become arrogant with me, and tell me how they are now better than me. Fine. If you believe that although you only learned how to make advanced formations a season ago, with my help, you'll still get the better of me. Maybe you will, I lit the way for you. But that kind of arrogance won't wash well with me. I don't think I have EVER told a team I am going to beat them or be better than them, unless maybe ages back when I was helping a team just starting out, and even then with a large side order of humility. This arrogance irritates me, and again, I didn't ask for that in a game either. So, I won't hand out tactics to those who I don't think deserve it, but rather than go through the ethical dilemma of working out who deserves it and who doesn't, essentially, how much to spend on everyone's Christmas present, I will just have a blanket policy of no for all. If you think that's a shame, then thank you, I will try and take it as a compliment, but if you actually respect the weight it has had on me this season you'll understand why I am no longer doing it. It won't stop me wishing everyone all the best in their games, or me willing everyone on, but it will mean I won't be a part of any of it. Thanks guys. Edited by sicox86 25-11-2014 00:19 |

Nice Words, i've not seen anyone since i came that challenged you,its suicidal. Even me i'm still learning this tactics of a thing , i love how i play now its all cause of Sicox. One PT yeah i've challenged you, but just for me to read your tactics, fact you're the only Div.3 team i can't beat in PT . As for helpin' , i helped abt 14 ppl with formations last season and like 6 are like ,Jurgen i would beat you when we meet, im just like 'no P', the worse is when they ask for tactics days later ,i'm like ;'you want tactics for the formation i gave you?' , they say ; No , i did it myself.
