Here are the updated promotion/relegation tables after R24, with some big changes in C1! C1  A1  A2  C1 saw a huge change at the top, as ROCKPOOL's over-0%-effort game on Saturday saw our 2nd-placed team slip down the ladder to 9th place. Fandi's use of high effort against FC Kylle on Saturday was a relief for Ali's Bayern Munchen side, who leave the relegation zone for the first time in 14 weeks, with Fandi now destined for the drop. However, ROCKPOOL stunned everyone by playing above 0% against FC Nori on Sunday to hand Fandi Ahmad a real lifeline. Bayern and Fandi need just watch their step in the final 2 rounds and their C1 place will be cemented for another season. However, one slip from one of those two teams, or 2 slips from practically anybody else in the league will see ROCKPOOL relegated. FC Kylle need just 2 points to be safe from relegation, and need just play fairly the last 2 games to take the title. As for the battle for the top prize spot, FC Kylle holds a slender lead of 1 point and 11 goals over cheats Concilio- If FC Kylle can take fairly 6 points from their last 2 games, they will be crowned champions after a long wait, and take the top prize. Anything other than that and FC Kylle's fate is in the hands of Concilio's opponents. A1 also saw a huge reshuffle at the top. Eyebrows were raised after Lombok used an unfair amount of effort in their loss to Antarctica on Saturday, which sees them drop from 2nd to 7th in the ranking, as they once again record their first violation point so late in the season. The fickle nature of rewarding clean records over points can be both cruel and kind, as for so long Lombok looked to be benefitting from stronger teams receiving violation points, and now that benefit gets passed over to another team. Rumor has it that, after a tough weekend, santi of Yoys was relaxing in his weekend retreat - a log cabin deep in the Canadian wilderness - when he received a phone call from the organizers of the PL telling him and his team to pack their bags for C1, as they're now in the 2nd promotion spot. Meanwhile, Mr Euskaltel of Kelme, was watching the goings-on live, and has already issued press releases telling santi to unpack those bags, as it will be his outfit, not Yoys, heading to C1, as he has the easier remaining fixtures. It will be close to call between these two, as Yoys holds a 3-point and 10-goal advantage over Kelme, so all eyes will be on the match on Saturday between Yoys and Polonia. A win for the Canadians will all-but seal (pun intended) promotion for Yoys, whereas a heavy loss will open the door just a little for Kelme. No such changes in A2, as Fortuna eased to the title, and, barring any violations, can relax against the tough opposition of the weekend. Will wetback's boys go out with a bang, or play it safe? Or both? Who knows! As I am shortly going to demonstrate, Fortuna have been in fantastic form this season, and once again prove why they are an asset to the PL. Brazucca also sealed promotion, again, if they avoid playing above 0% effort against MESSI (they play WW on Saturday, and all the judges' eyes will be elsewhere for that game)! BLACKBERRY have fought very well, and I think they will be a strong contender next season, provided they can improve upon their squad depth. Only 2 rounds remain of TOC in SM S16, so the best of luck to all teams still in with a chance of promotion, and better luck to all those aiming to avoid relegation from C1. |

I said in my last post that I would prove that Fortuna's boys have had a brilliant season, so here we go. I think this will be the 2nd time I have used these coefficient tables to compare each of our seasons from C1, A1 and A2.  Fortuna's machine rolls on, whereas FC Kylle have had to settle for a very respectable 8 points from their last 4 games. As a result, these 2 sides have switched places. ROCKPOOL's 2 violations and unlucky results have contributed to them sliding down to 8th. There are, of course, many of the usual suspects making up the top 14, and credit to all of those sides. I'd like to shine some hopefully appreciated praise on some smaller teams who are doing well in the ranking, as this is always nice to see. BLACKBERRY are sitting nicely in 11th, and I think this is a remarkable achievement. Perhaps the biggest overachiever is DaaBrain, in 13th place, as these guys haven't got the strongest squad by quite a long way, and are currently operating on Div5 finances, and yet are challenging some far bigger teams. Kelme can be very proud of their 24th place, for such a new team, and MIDNIGHT ROCKERS have also done a solid job this season. If you think I've missed praise for any team, make a comment on the forum, as I haven't time for all 42 teams! Part of me thinks it would be interesting to decide the PL groups using such a method, but the limitations of doing so are not in accordance with the PL rules - namely that teams in C1 should be there primarily because of how little stress they cause others, and that no point value is placed on a violation point. In addition, using purely a coefficient rating to decide the league groupings can be manipulated. If the teams in 14th and 15th were very close, and in the same league, and then playing each other, the team in the slightly higher position would be able to cheat and ensure 0 points for both teams. Sure, another team could then take 14th place with 3 fairly won points, but you can hopefully see how that could still be manipulated. Also, the coefficient system is not really 'fair' enough to decide such a a thing as grouping. Although we all hope against it, Ali's Bayern Munchen side may be relegated from Div 3 this season, whereas Kelme look destined to promote from Div 5 - both will be in the same division next season, so in terms of coefficient caluculations, both would be equally-weighted. Hopefully most of us can agree that those 2 sides are not yet equal (although Kelme is rocketing up through the leagues and doing very well from transfer business)! This is quite an extreme and hypothetical example, but you get the point. There are a couple more limitations, to my mind, but I won't go into those. |
