I support both this and the new version of the game. I think both are two of the best free football manager games online, however both have massive flaws that I believe will forever hold them back from being popular. I completely understand why many serious, hardcore, or even casual gamers have no interest in either of them. I certainly wouldn’t recommend these games to friends. The gamers I know that enjoy this type of game would never give up playing commercial, professional manager games for either Striker Manager. Sadly I think the attitude and efforts to date from the developer having spent so many years on this franchise suggests that the fundamental and logical changes that are needed to increase the popularity of these games will never happen. I’m surprised a more ambitious developer hasn’t entered the market offering a product that sits between the simplicity of this game and the quality of commercial games. As I mentioned above; I happen to enjoy both games to varying degrees. From the near-on two dozen free football manager games I’ve played in the past these two are the best of the bunch, inspite of the poor decisions made by the developer and the unbelievably bad (verging on embarrassing) simulation of the actual sport. What I find surprising in the way both games are designed and play is that the developers appear to have little experience in other football manager games (I can only assume they have purposely never played another football manager game), nor do they seem to have paid much attention to the way the sport looks or plays. While I understand that they’re in the business of profit I fail to see how their turnover will improve much in future if they’re genuinely happy with the quality of both games. From my understanding the road to expansion and greater wealth in the games industry is to create a popular product. A game that isn’t known outside of its small community and has so few customers, regardless of its longevity suggests that both games will remain unpopular. I had originally thought to list numerous changes and improvements that I believe would help the game, based on ideas and features from other games, but I see little point. I think it’s a shame that a game with so much potential, that, regardless of the poor decisions and some terrible features can only retain a tiny hardcore audience rather than build a thriving community and successful business for the developers. However, knowing that the developers have created a new game, recognising that mistakes and errors were made with this game, and still persist, suggests that perhaps in future they will eventually resolve the issues in the fourth or fifth version and stumble on a product that proves to be popular and infinitely more profitable.
