Eerily starting to sound more like how the NFL does it. Which is hugely popular.... in the states. Have the goals reviewed. Thats what matters most. 29/10/2012 23:28

edit - in reply to armo.

this is about that. i disagree & think they should introduce it wholesale asap alongside retrospective match bans via panel for anything missed during a match.

it would be a very difficult transition, but once players get used to it, you'd end up with less dirty challenges, less cheating, less miscarriages. then there wouldn't have to be that many stoppages & we'd end up with a better game.

things can't carry on in the way it's going at the moment. it's going to become unwatchable.

Armo, the time is wasted anyway when players surround the referee. And Johnny, I wouldn't support reviewing goals after a game - the scoreline at the end of it should always remain unchanged 29/10/2012 23:32

it's how it's done in rugby in some of the same stadiums used for international matches. the technology is already in place. that's what i find most perverse, to not even have a dry run for friendlies etc

reviewing goals post match would be daft. but post match is perfect to study any nasty challenges or diving. things a panel would need to study closely rather than make a snap decision mid-match.

the players surronding ref takes only few seconds.
i do agree replay's should be available.. but its time consuming. They already add extra time to "injuries" They have the replay tv set up, atleast they did in wc south africa

Replays take even fewer seconds. A video ref looks at it a talks to the ref using their earpiece - saves time and controversy. 29/10/2012 23:41

I meant during the game. After the game would be a mute point.
Aleph, unfortunately the only thing that will and could change this is the fans. Until it starts affecting their pockets, nothing will be done. This means not going to the game, not watching it on TV and not buying merchandise. Maybe if ratings start declining and those TV contracts start declining. Problem is those contracts just got done and for a lot of money.

Here in the States, NBC sports network just payed 250mil for the next three seasons. The last contract was for 80mil.
And over in your neck of the woods, BskyB and BT bought the three year contract for 3.018 billion pounds.

Sounds like they got SM money. And that just threw my theory on the TV contracts right out the window. oh well.

hah
if you have seen mlb, nfl, nhl replays, its not few seconds.
It takes a couple of minutes.
they have to look at every single possible angle before they make the call. And after that. of they cant figure it out, they take few mins to talk over and stick to the original call.

NFL players routinely get fined for nasty tackles during the week after the game/ incident.
